NO. 5 EXTERIOR FABRIC FLAME RETARDER

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

No. 5 Exterior Fabric Flame Retarder is a specially formulated solvent-based compound, designed to retard the burning of fabrics that may be exposed to weather. It will not leach out, even when exposed to a continuous hose stream. It is recommended for use on welding curtains, canopies, dividers, awnings and tents. Properly treated materials will meet the requirements of NFPA 701-75 and will repel water.

APPLICATION:

Stir and mix thoroughly before applying. No. 5 Fabric Flame Retarder may be applied by brush, spray or dipping. In all cases, fabric should be completely saturated.

Flame tests should be conducted on small dry sample pieces of identical fabric, treated at the same time, to insure that proper flame protection has been provided. In some cases it may be necessary to apply a second application to obtain the desired flame retardancy. Treated fabrics will be stiffer than untreated fabrics. Dark fabrics will show discoloration in the form of whiting. To overcome whiting on dark fabrics, small amounts of universal paint colorants (2 oz. max. per gallon) may be added to tint material to approximate color of fabric.

COVERAGE:

One gallon will treat approximately 450 ounces of cotton duck material.

DRYING TIME:

Drying time varies with weight of fabric and weight add on. Heavier fabrics will require longer drying times than lightweight fabrics. Treated fabrics may be heat cured providing equipment is suitable for use with FLAMMABLE SOLVENTS. (See “CAUTION” and “WARNING”).

CLEAN UP:

Tools and equipment should be thoroughly cleaned using Xylol or (Exxon) Aromatic SC-100 Solvents.
