Industry Problems & Solutions

Our founder, Patrick Bumpus, returned to the firm about 18 months ago after some time off. He saw a major need among certain occupancies and areas of public occupancy, for a more effective approach to fire retardant applications and maintenance for interior finishes, decorative materials, and thermal barrier applications.

Man confused about code complianceIn 2012, Mr. Bumpus, together with Project Manager George Murray, traveled over 60,000 miles around the United States. They interviewed six State Fire Marshalls and numerous code enforcement officers, administrators, insurance executives, and safety officials in health care and educational facilities.

All of them had the same problem: they lacked the ability to identify the standard rules and regulations they must comply with, and then build a comprehensive program of fire retardant solutions for health care facilities, student housing and other areas of public occupancy. Until now.

FR University

Fire Resistant University

IFS's FR University is a two day classroom and field application course for training Certified Applicators held in Auburn, NY. Classes can also be arranged for larger group attendance at facilities within your area.

FR University provides training in the following areas:

Number 1   FACILITY EVALUATION SERVICE

Technician measuring basement rafters Trained professionals from International Fire Shield will arrive on site to do a complete evaluation of miscellaneous flammable items to address compliance with the Life Safety Codes (interior finishes and decorative materials). Information will then be brought back to our offices for compilation of a detailed report and proposal to complete the necessary services to bring the facilities into compliance with the Life Safety Codes. The evaluations match decorative materials and substrates with the correct UL, ULC and ICC classified flame retardant products.

Number 2   FRU's CERTIFIED APPLICATOR PROGRAM

Technician spraying ceiling with foam This two day course trains certified applicators how to evaluate, apply and maintain material compliance. Areas of instruction include flame retardant products, evaluations and monitoring followed by hands-on evaluations and applications. The course is available to organizations for in-house staff and independent contractors.

Number 3   UV IDENTIFICATION & TRACKING PROGRAM

This program enables the tracking of treatment and re-treatment records on all goods in all facilities.

Ultraviolent fire retardant certification stampCertified applicators stamp completed applications with an invisible strategically located stamp. This stamp, visible only under our provided UV lights, can be examined annually by inspectors to identify items treated, date, product used, certified applicator, term and length of certification. On laundered items the stamp disperses indicating re-treatment is needed. On applications of paints and varnishes, our stamp is permanent until repainting. The stamp number refers back to the corresponding batch number at the manufacturing plant.

Number 4   QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAMS

Certificate of fire resistance International Fire-Shield, Inc.'s patent pending Certificate of Fire Resistance management program validates certificate entry, issues certificates, stores certificates electronically, and issues renewal reminder notices. The program ensures secure storage of and access to your Fire Resistance certification, and tracking of your certification dates to give you continuous compliance.
